HOW IT WORKS

THE FAMILY EXPERIENCE

Most mothers arrive with a plan, a lint roller, and a quiet worry that their four-year-old is going to ruin this. I have watched a great many of those plans dissolve within the first ten minutes.

That is usually when it gets good.

My approach is flexible by design. There is no strict timeline and no shot list you have to survive. I read the energy of your family and work with it — portraits when everyone’s settled, personality when they’re not. I am fully prepared to get dirty to get the shot.

You will not need matching outfits. You will not need anyone to behave. After booking, you’ll receive a session guide covering what to wear, how to time it around naps and moods, and what actually helps on the day.

What I’m looking for isn’t the perfect smile. It’s the hand on your leg, the head on your shoulder, the way she still runs at you like you’re the only fixed point in the world.

Investing in photography now can feel hard to justify. Years from now, it won’t be the expense you remember. It’ll be the photograph in your hand.

Somewhere That Means Something

The best sessions happen where your family already is. The beach you go back to every July. Your own living room on a slow morning. The house that’s been in the family for three generations.

I photograph across southern Maine — Kennebunkport, Kennebunk, Cape Porpoise, Goose Rocks Beach, Arundel, and the coast between them.

Some families want the coast. Others want somewhere quiet and enclosed, with room to run and nobody watching. For those, there’s a private sixty-acre farm in Kennebunk — open pasture, tree line, and horses over the fence.

  • A shareable slideshow reel of your gallery, ready to post

  • A private online gallery with a connected store — download your images, or order prints, cards, and albums direct from a professional lab

wHAT HAPPENS NEXT

From Here to the Album

One — Inquire. Tell me about your family and roughly when you’re thinking. I’ll reply with availability and full pricing.

Two — Book. A 50% non-refundable retainer holds your date. The balance is due before the session.

Three — Prepare. You’ll get the session guide. Most families read it once and stop worrying.

Four — The session. Sixty minutes. Bring a change of clothes for whoever is likeliest to find the mud.

Five —Choose your images. A proofing gallery goes up within 5 days with the full set from your session. Pick your 30 images for professional editing, or upgrade your gallery to include any additional images you can’t leave behind.

Six — Your finished gallery. Your edited images arrive in a private online gallery, along with a slideshow reel you can share. Download what you’d like, send the link to family, and order prints through the connected lab whenever you’re ready.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Wear something that makes you feel good. That matters more than any rule I could give you — it shows in your face, and it’s the difference between looking dressed and looking like yourself.

For the record, I love a good pair of jeans. They photograph beautifully, they don’t date the way a trendy dress will, and nobody has ever felt stiff in them.

Past that: softer colors and natural fabrics — cream, oatmeal, sage, dusty blue, warm neutrals. Skip large logos and busy patterns, which pull the eye off faces. The full guide goes out after booking with examples and a suggested palette.

Nothing that changes the outcome. We flex the session, take a break, let them run. Some of my favorite frames come out of the ten minutes a child spends refusing to participate.

Many families default to fall. I’d rather you pick a date that means something — a summer birthday, the week school lets out, the last summer before someone leaves for college. My own preference is summer: the weather cooperates, the light lasts, and everyone has that summer glow.

Wherever suits your family — the coast, your home, or somewhere with history for you. I work across southern Maine. I also have a private horse farm in Kennebunk available if you’d prefer somewhere quiet and enclosed.

Summer dates fill first. Most families reach out two to three months ahead.

Returning Families tend to book the next one at the session itself — it’s the easiest way to hold the date you want, and it means the year is already accounted for before summer fills in.

Only if you want them to be. Sharing is opt-in — you’ll be asked before the session, and the answer is easy to change afterward. Plenty of families keep their gallery entirely private, and that costs you nothing.

I’m a Maine photographer and a mother, which means I know exactly how fast this goes.

I spend my days on things that run on their own schedule: a garden, a barn, a child who is never ready when we need to leave. None of it moves faster because I’d like it to. Your session works the same way — we go when your family goes, and the frames I want most tend to arrive in the part nobody planned.

Whether you just met your baby, you’re sending a senior off to college, or you’re somewhere in the middle of it, I’m here for the version of your family that’s true right now — not the one that’s easy to pose.
