The Newborn Experience

You’re already so busy watching this moment — soothe, feed, burp, soothe, rest — that it’s easy to forget you’re in it too. So my job isn’t just to document this moment for you. It’s to make sure you’re standing inside it.

I know what it is to invite a stranger into your hospital room. So we don’t start there. Every newborn experience includes a complementary micro maternity session first, time for us to get to know each other before the day arrives.

Once baby’s here, you’ll reach me through my online form, day or night, and we’ll find the window that works for your family. I arrive already working — documenting the room, the small details, before I ever reach your door. Then I find the light, get settled, and guide you and dad through the moments that matter most.

Capturing the moments you’ll want to hold onto, long after they stop reaching for your hand.

Building a family feels like it stretches on forever — and then, in a blink, the kids are grown, and you’re the one welcoming grandchildren home. What’s left of these years are the photographs on the wall. The albums pulled out at Christmas. The faces you almost forgot were once so small.

Investing in photography now can feel hard to justify — it’s just one more thing on the list. But years from now it’ll be the photograph in your hand that you remember.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Let me document life with your new baby just as it is. The oversized hospital gown and the grippy socks simply add to the memory. Some mamas opt to include a comfortable robe and comfy shorts but please don’t feel the need to dress up on my account – you did just have a baby after all.

Dads are encouraged to wear solid colors with no large logos or prints.

Nothing changes. We flex the session, take a break, I can step out for a few moments, or I can document the events as they unfold. There’s something really special about watching new parents learning how to soothe their baby. Having these moments to hold onto for years to come may just be some of the very photos that truly tug at your heartstrings as they grow.

I always encourage parents to have their newborn photos taken while they’re in the hospital. Not only do I love photographing in the hospital, capturing all that newness, but there are also some challenges that pop up shortly after getting home. Parents get tired and Babies go through two stages that can make newborn photos challenging. The peeling skin stage can start around days 2-5 and newborn acne can appear between 14-28 days old. These timelines vary by baby but that leaves a very small window between (if any) to get great photos. Another bonus is not having to worry about tidying your house (not something I require but parents always feel the need).

Newborn sessions can take place either in the hopsital or at your home.

Due to the unpredictability of births, I only take on a limited amount of newborn sessions each season. I recommend inquiring around your 20th week of pregnancy.

Only if you want them to be. Sharing is opt-in — you’ll be asked before the session, and the answer is easy to change afterward. Plenty of families keep their gallery entirely private, and that costs you nothing.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

HI, I’M JASSY!

I’m a Maine photographer and a mother, which means I know exactly how fast this goes.

I spend my days on things that run on their own schedule: a garden, a barn, a child who is never ready when we need to leave. None of it moves faster because I’d like it to. Your session works the same way — we go when your family goes, and the frames I want most tend to arrive in the part nobody planned.

Whether you just met your baby, you’re sending a senior off to college, or you’re somewhere in the middle of it, I’m here for the version of your family that’s true right now — not the one that’s easy to pose.
